Salicylic Acid for Summer Pores

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

From sunscreen to sweating, you might find your skin is getting oilier and your pores are more congested. You may notice more whiteheads, blackheads, and even acne. Salicylic acid can help restore oil balance and keep those pores clean.

What is Salicylic Acid?

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA).

How it Works

It breaks down excess oils and dead surface skin cells. This helps balance oil production for skin, and to clean and decrease the appearance of pores.

How to use

Salicylic acid is ideally used at nighttime, as it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun (however, sunscreen should always be worn during the day).

Here are a couple of our favorite skincare products containing salicylic acid:

The Ordinary

Salicylic Acid Masque 2%

This product is ideal for large, congested pores. Not only does it contain salicylic acid, but it is also a charcoal clay mask. This masque breaks down excess oils while simultaneously extracting debris from the pores.

Peach Slices

Salicylic Acid Toner

To be used after cleansing, this toner can be used more frequently than the masque. In addition to balancing oil production, consistent use helps to break down dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that contribute to the formation of clogged pores, milia, blackheads and acne.

Peach Slices

Salicylic Acid Cleanser

If your skin is sensitive to salicylic acid, you may opt for a cleanser, which has less contact time with your skin. Just leave the cleanser on the skin for an extra minute or two and rinse.
